X-Men Excel in Essex
Colchester away aka Jolly Boys Outing
As it was called mid-week the jolly boys outing it certainly stood up to its title!!!
With a master class at selection the coach arrives and we have 13 players!!!
Going via chateaux Campbell to collect my kit we are off to sunny Colchester.
On arrival we explain to the oppo and Paul their player coach kindly agrees to start with 14, top chap
So we are off and from the get go Combe are flying.
We score and solidly worked try and young Alex goes over, Frankie Converts 0-7.
After 20 mins we loose jack lloyd so down to 13 and the Physio has even got changed!!!
We let the oppo in with some well worked tries by them and at the half we are 22-12 down with Simmo scoring and Frankie missing the kick
Simmo takes a big knock and his ribs are done he is basically playing non contact but stuck to it
Second half the boys stood up defended like legends carried and worked hard across the park
Josh Penny played 7 all game, Omar and James Kenward swept up at the back
The next try was majestic in every way, at least 30 yards out minimum Catlin goes off the base followed by a burst of pace the boys have never seen before from the new number 4 latches onto the ball the boys drive on try! I think I cracked a smile as well.
Frankie converts 22-19.
The boys tails are up the Physio wants a piece of the action (hasn't played since he was 12) but was to busy sorting out the injured.
Frankie gets the ball just inside our half and he's off beats four to score under the posts, converts 22-26
The longest 10 minutes on the planet with snow!!!
This is what Combe rugby is all about
honest hard graft, blokes putting their hands up to dig in and work for each other, brilliant
Youngest player just 18 scored and the oldest at 46 says it all about the game played and the team spirit.
Hugely proud off all concerned especially Catlin who worked and encouraged all game , Simmo for hanging in there
