Westcombe Park Extra 1st XV 32-14 Blackheath Heathens

It did not go un-noticed that our young side were in two minds about playing the old enemy,
up steps Joe Birch and scores our first try on 4 minutes, nerves gone and game on.
For such a young side with at least 4 lads still in the academy and the average age being 21 we stepped up to the plate.
We pushed hard in midfield but with a greasy ball some passes didn't quiet go to hand. We kicked for touch about 30 yards out, catch and drive and the boys marched on picking up pace as they went, 20 yards out 10 yards out and boom try scored Taff Lewis on 12 minutes.
Blackheath were very strong in the scum and we did come under pressure but all credit to the boys we didnt concede a penalty at scrum time all game, Taff will wake up tomorrow feeling like he's been run over!
From some good forward play we had quick ball and slick hands in the backs saw Josh Penny with a heap of work to do step 1,2,3 and then 4 blackheath players to score a great try and convert on 28 minutes
By this stage we had started to meet blackheath at the gain line and force them back the communication in defence was key.
We let ourselves fall a sleep and conceded a well worked try and conversation on 36 minutes.

Halftime.

We came out after a very positive chat and the boys worked hard in all areas, Richard Halstead using their biggest player as tackling practice was a sight to see at one stage hanging on to his sock but didnt give up set the tone for the team to follow.Carson doing some good ball carrying along side Thuens and nimmo chopping wood.
Another catch and drive up, pick and go a couple of times and up steps twinkle toes lewy try on 49 minutes.
Lots of open play and some good kicking from hand and chase had the boys working hard all round.
Unfortunately Blackheaths hooker took a bad knock to his ankle and had to go uncontested, hopefully hes not to badly injured.
Scrum in their 22, 8 pick up pass to 9 inside ball to nimmo try on 75.
from the restart we we had them under pressure ball gets to Birchy with some work to do and over he goes on 77
Blackheath score quickly and convert on 78

Fulltime
final score 33-14.

We did what we set out to do and that was improve on our previous weeks performance not just as a side but also in an individual task.
Carson carried well, John Wright and Lewy spoke well and pushed hard around the park, Purdy as captain guided the backline, but Josh Penny for a 17 year old deserves his man of the match.
With the likes of Sanchez, Fox Theuns, Penny, Hennah and the other names mentioned above above the future looks bright.
Well done boys
Simon.
