Combe ran riot against visitors CS Rugby, putting together a ten-try treat for the last home league game of the season in front of a cheerful crowd...

.... enjoying also the spring sunshine. CS are now doomed and although they tried to spray the ball around they could not break down a resolute Combe defence, and would also spill what few chances they created. There was a bit of a breeze blowing from the clubhouse end, and CS would have first use.

With just over ten minutes on the clock, Combe were three tries to the good, and 17-0 up. Ben Hough went over first, after a break-out, quick ball, and slick hands. Next Omar Dixon was over for his first score of the day, again slick hands from Combe’s backs, and then Tom Gray touched down having taken a quick tap penalty. Debutant Frank Reynolds (yes, son of Steve) knocked over the first of his five conversions. A ten minute breather before the next score. Trent Nattrass made the approach work up the touchline before giving a scoring pass inside to Omar Dixon. Another ten minute gap. Matt Arvier made considerable ground, carried on by Reece Conlon, and finished by Dale Bellinger plunging over. The half was drawing to a close. Combe were one, then two men short. CS used the advantage to press the Combe line and from a line-out on the right spun it left for winger Aaron Radley to squeeze in at the corner. No conversion, half-time called, Combe 29-5 ahead.

At the re-start Combe now had the wind advantage, but CS the temporary advantage in numbers. It did not count. CS got close to the Combe line but there was a forward pass. Combe’s six man unit took one against the head and kicked out of their 22, led by Luke Bellinger. For almost twenty minutes CS were holding out, but as Combe’s dominance upfront began to tell, CS began to wilt, conceding ground, position, and penalties. Luke Bellinger also plunged over from short range, then Lee Covington was over at the back of a line-out drive. Omar Dixon was over for his third collecting a chip ahead from Tom Gray who had made the break-out from his own line. Into the last five minutes, Combe were not finished. Ted Lang made a break, support from Frank Reynolds, and Lee Covington to put Ben Hennah in at the corner, and finally from a line-out in the left corner the ball came right, miss pass, big gap, Ben Hough over for his second, and Frank Reynolds added his last conversion. 60-5, final score.

Director of Rugby Andy Foley said "I was very pleased with the last home performance of the 2014/2015 season. The guys had worked hard over the last 6 sessions on being more clinical & 10 tries underpinned the desire to execute more professionally. We witnessed a fantastic 1st XV debut by 18 year old Frank Reynolds, whilst 17 year old Harry Holland subscribed to the "if you are good enough you are old enough" adage, as he completed 80 minutes at blind side flanker. Omar Dixon was the pick of the day, with a well taken 3 tries off the right wing. The boys move on to Guensey this weekend, where a strong squad of players will be eyeing up 2 away wins."

The result was down to teamwork, with everyone contributing. As importantly the players were enjoying playing. It is too early to relax as the last game awaits next week away to a resurrected Guernsey. A win away and Combe can then claim to finish on a high.
