Little separated the sides in this low-scoring, exciting game on Combes latest trip to the Channel Islands on Saturday. It says volumes for both defences that despite three tries less than 30 points were scored.
In fact it was half way through the second quarter before either side posted as score on the board when Thomson(sorry no first name) slotted a penalty for Guernsey.
The first half ended with a flurry of scoring first James Cameron levelled the scores and then Hillier scored a try for Guernsey to make the score 8—3 at the interval.
The second half had been going for more than 10 minutes when James Cameron closed the gap with a drop goal. Another lengthy spell of no scoring ended when Nixon scored a second try for Guernsey again not converted to make the score 13—6 .
Like the first the second half finished with a third of the points being scored in the last 8 minutes. Combe where the first to strike when Omar Dixon latched onto a 22-meter drop out and streaked to the line down the wing. James Cameron conversion brought the sides level.
It took Guernsey barely 3 minutes to edge back in front with Thomas's drop goal3 minuted from time sealed the points for Guernsey.
It was a long way for Combe to travel for the loosing bonus point but they have travelled further and for less, and who knows that maybe a fateful point come the end of the season.
