Last season we said goodbye to the tattered remnants of vandalised and weathered dugouts which have served us for many years.
As we looked to replace them, Combe was faced with a large cost to buy “off the shelf”. So we asked a couple of our club members and friends to quote for constructing them.
Their costs came in much cheaper and so we approached the ‘Combe committee to help us find the money. Up stepped the youth management representatives and said they would meet the cost.
I have to say that the timelines were tight and so were the instructions from our youth management – make them strong and have them last for 5 years plus get them in place for the first home game. So all of those requirements were met and you can see the evidence on the 1st XV pitch and in the attached photos. Once Reece Conlon had finished construction, Mark Ley finished with 3 coats of paint and Phil Hartley’s work crew got them in place.
Thanks so much to Reece Conlon (construction), Mark Ley (painting), the volunteers who moved them into place and especially our youth section for funding them.
This was a great example of the club members and volunteers working together to help our adult players and our older youth teams too – One Club – One Combe!
