Camel Sabotage

NOMADS MATCH REPORT SWANLEY
This week saw the Nomads set sail for Swanley. We was to go by boat as some camel jockeys had been operating overnight in the area and by the morning found our team suddenly depleted by 4. Max Luscombe (Lame), Charlie “Machete” Sene (Colic), Kelan “Dylan the Rabbit” Mcpolin (Sniper Wound) and Tom Barnes (Arthritic Humps) . This was not ideal to our starting line up, as Swanley had insisted only 3 subs, so our rested players rearranged their Saturday in minutes coming to the rescue. Thanks chaps. Then Swanley provided us with a phone box to change in - along with them -“Such fun” - NOT. Warm up went well but could not generate enough heat to keep the driving rain getting to the boys. Swanley tried to use 6 subs, Rich “The Diplomat” explained to the ref about the 6 subs they will not be using, using them they will not be!!
The game opened with a smash, Al “The Smash” Robbins to be exact, swatting Swanley like a man possessed, obviously upset at the Camel incident earlier in the day, took retribution on the whole of Swanley. This set the tone for the rest of game, which saw from the start all Nomads making them have it! Poetry in motion followed with skills and ball handling in such awful conditions that Eddie Jones would be envious of. With 10 mins of battering a missed tackle saw Louis Hoad storm the try line to score. With Jimmy “The Boot” Bignal on target for the conversion. 7-0 uncharted territory for The Nomads, we don’t wake up until 15 mins I think we may have cracked it at last!
Not be out done by the twinkle toed backs the forwards got in on the action 10 mins later with Rod “See me Dad” Parrish crashing over for second try, converted by Jimmy the boot.
Getting rather too cocky we thought we could attack from our 25m line, however with a few bad decisions by us and even worse ones by the ref saw Swanley cross our line. 14-5 on the 35 min mark. Nuts!
This was not taken lightly, Jimmy the boot kicked off, beautifully gathered by Louis “Nureyev” Hoad, recycled it and guess who Al the smash broke down the blind side barley touched for a try. We then repeated the mistake to let Swanley in on 40 mins for a half time score 19-12.
Second half stayed mostly the same but with much better game management by Chris “Farrell” Watts seeing Swanley entering our half just twice. Storming runs from Rod, Al, Louis, and Danny kept Swanley pinned on their line. After many dodgy decisions from twinkle toes we crossed their line with a great attack from Eden “Billy Whiz” James for his debut try well deserved. Converted by Jimmy "the boot"
Final score 26-12.
A big thank you to all involved players, subs and spectators who stayed in atrocious conditions to support the side.
And a special thank you to my Sue for providing catering Sat and Sun at 4 hours’ notice.
Dick of the Day - Rod “See me Dad” Parrish
Man of the Match - Al “The Smash” Robbins
