On behalf of Dave Lambert.
Dear All
I’m sorry to be the bearer of very sad news about a member of very long standing.
Stewart Robinson passed away yesterday.
He was a dear friend, a long time player at Combe and a well known referee across the south east.
Stewart had different medical issues for some time but two weeks ago went into Kings Hospital to have part of his liver removed.
He was, as always, very positive about the procedure and having had the op was looking forward to recovering at home.
He came home on Tuesday and was relieved to be out of hospital.
He did say that he was experiencing a lot of pain but was braced to bear it in his usual indomitable spirit.
Yesterday he had a setback and it is suspected that he’d had a heart attack to which he succumbed.
Inevitably it’s a huge huge shock to the family, Stewart always seemed hale and hearty and made light of his problems.
He was a great companion and had a wealth of knowledge over a wide range of subjects particularly the world energy situation which provided his gainful employment for many years.
Stewart was always proud of his work in the Combe mini and junior sections, coaching and managing many teams over the years and was delighted to see homegrown players make the pathway into senior rugby (any team not just 1st XV).
Stewart was very pleased with how things are developing right now in the junior sections.
He also served on the committee and selection committee for many years and was a keen volunteer at the club - and also loved a rugby tour!
His knowledge of the laws of rugby was boundless and he was the oracle to whom many of us turned when the dear old RFU implemented changes, some of which seemed bizarre and beyond our comprehension!
Stewart had been educated in Wales and loved the people and culture from those west of the Severn.
He and Pat had a bolt hole in Wales where they spent many happy times.
We all pass our condolences to Pat, David and Christine and the rest of the family.
They have asked that the family be allowed to grieve in private and understandably Pat will need a lot of time to come to terms with their sad loss so please guys no contact for a while.
Stewart was a super mate, always had an opinion and a finely honed sense of humor.
May he Rest in Peace
