A new venue for this popular mini festival this year-with the new rules this season would we see different teams coming to the fore?

A new venue for this popular mini festival this year-with the new rules this season would we see different teams coming to the fore?

First game WP 1 vs Old Colfeians 1
Both sides came out of the starting blocks trying to show their hand as soon as possible-tackling and ball handling from both teams was of a high quality.
Combe got off first with some excellent teamwork, Harry D and Hayden getting us on the scoresheet with Louis to follow and a sneaky try by OC' s to make it 3-1 to Combe at half time.
A reinforcing chat to the team about handling quality at half time-no real problems with their tackling which was superb.
A try each for Matthew and Hayden in the second half with a try from OC, s.
Combe were beginning to find their old form again!
Final score Combe 5 OC' s 2

Second game WP vs TJ 2
This was going to be an interesting game as we know that TJ' s always have a good first team, so their second should follow.
Well, WP moved up a gear in the first half through some excellent runs and tries from Louis (2), Henry, Hayden and Matthew.TJ' s came back a touch to give the score at half time 5-2 to WP.
We needed to ensure the boys didn't squander their lead, so reinforced the basics of passing and tackling-they didn't let us down, scoring three through Henry,Ollie and Hayden-really great quality teamwork, each boy ensuring the ball was provided cleanly to their colleagues to produce a try scoring opportunity.TJ' s nipped a great try back, giving a final score of;
WP 8 TJ's 3

Third game WP vs Blackheath 1
This was going to be a very tough game-Blackheath are a good side with some enormous players.
Combe got off to a flyer, with a try to Harry D.
One up!
Blackheath just moved up 2 gears, putting so much pressure on us that we just couldn't tackle them-they scored 3 tries in succession to make it 3-1 down at half time.
If we were going to win this we' d have to change our tack.
Louis managed a try to bring it back to 3-2 down, but alas we were just out played by a superior side, Blackheath scoring another just before the final whistle.
Apart from one try that we let through whilst not concentrating, Combe did very little wrong-they did very well to go only two down to a much better side.
This was our last pool game-we were second in the pool, Blackheath having won all of theirs.
Final score WP 2 Blackheath 4

We would now play the winners of pool B, Dartfordians 1, with the winner going through to the final.
The kids were hungry for a win in the semi final.

Dartford are a good, well disciplined side and this too would be a tough game.
Both sides played a superb first few minutes with excellent tackling and passing from ground-two sets of very excited parents and neither side wishing to make any silly mistakes.
WP got the first score through a Harry D try, quickly followed by a Dartfordian score to make it 1-1 at half time.
This could go either way....
Whichever team stepped up first was going to take it, and our boys didn't let us down with a hard won try by Jack Piller taking us ahead. This was still too close to call, but Combe managed another turnover ball through a seven tackler, resulting in an outstanding try by Louis.
Combe managed to fend off the opposition advances to give a final score of;
WP 3 Dartfordians 1
Dartfordians could hold their heads high as they played a clean and outstanding game.

Combe were in the final against.......

Blackheath 1 again!
This was going to be super tough, as the kids knew what to expect.
Again Blackheath played superbly, and try as we could we just couldn't prise a hole in their defence, meaning we were 2-0 down at half time.
Again, no really big errors by our boys they were simply out played, ceding another in the second half to give a final score of 3-0 down.

Our kids gave it their all, and can hold their heads high.
The team was more unified than the OE, s festival and have progressed greatly since then-they are improving rapidly.
Congratulations to Blackheath 1 for a great win-you thoroughly deserved it, and thank you for putting on a great festival.
We certainly enjoyed it.
