Peter Johns’ funeral will be held at Beckenham Crematorium, Elmers End Road, Beckenham, BR3 4TD at 3.00pm on Friday 26th August. Family flowers only, but donations, in memory of Peter, may be made to Cancer Research.

Peter, having been educated at Wilson’s Grammar School Camberwell, joined Westcombe Park RFC from Streatham Croydon RFC when he moved to Blenheim Road, Orpington in 1959. Played in the lower XV’s as a back row forward or in the second row [if pushed] when a height of 6’0” was considered tall enough to jump in the lineout for the ball!

He gained his B XV Honours cap in 1966/67 and captained the B XV 1967/68. He also assisted the Colts, served on the committee 1975-77 and was made a VP in 1981.

Some may remember that he helped transported the old clubhouse furniture and bar stock from Craven Road to the Chislehurst Caves for the annual club’s jazz night for a number of seasons during the 1970’s/1980’s

As a QS and builder, he worked to help maintain the Craven Road clubhouse for a number of years and was on the sub-committee that looked for new accommodation during the 1980’s. He also sat in on negations with Bromley Council and Orpington Sports Club that led to ‘Combe’s move to Goddington Dene in 1989/90.
