Gerry first joined Combe when he brought a young David Grace up to play in the under 14s and immediately made friends with children and parents alike.

Gerry was an accomplished sportsman and played semi-professional football in the Southern League and was selected for England schoolboys at U16s. He also played County Cricket for Kent up until U19s. However, he often said it was a pity he hadn’t played rugby as well.

He started coming to the club on Saturdays and quickly embraced the Combe ethos. He became a fixture on the touchline, home and away. He was good company and made friends easily right through the club from 1st team down to juniors. He will long be remembered for his expert knowledge of front row play and many referees will have benefited from his touch line comments.

Gerry was 2nd team manager for 3 years and 4th official for a few seasons as well.

Gerry was very sociable and generous and his friends will tell you that you could not have had a better touring companion. For those on the Weston-Super-Mare trip, his forward roll over the wall is still talked about.

Gerry lived long enough to see Dave debut in the 1’s just recently and you could see the pride in his face.

Gerry will be sorely missed throughout the club and Saturdays will never be quite the same again.
