Chobham 0-40 Westcombe Park

Combe were only 7 points to the good at the start of the second period but after 15 minutes a hat-trick from Dan Hamilton and a second score from centre Cassius Deschamps put the visitors clear at 33 to nil. A further score from captain O'Sullivan converted by Matt Harrison completed an excellent afternoon for Westcombe Park marred only by a neck injury to prop Tom Simmons which required some very careful treatment and a hospital trip. The good news is there is no serious damage and we may even see Tom on the pitch next week.

Another week and another re-jigged Combe back-line with stalwart Niki Davies recalled at centre after a 4 year gap. Davies showed he had lost none of his spatial awareness when, on the 15 minute mark, he broke the line with a 25 metre run and showed awareness to offload in the tackle to allow fellow centre Deschamps to run in the try. Stand-off Harrison kicked the first of his 5 successful conversions on what was a confident kicking display from the tee.

Chobham went down to 13 men, receiving 2 quickfire yellow cards for ruck offences as the Combe forwards piled on the pressure in the red zone. It was to the frustration of the visiting support that despite numerical and territorial advantage WPRFC couldn't add to that earlier score and, indeed, Combe's defence was put through its paces as Chobham showed attacking threats of their own at a couple of line outs deep in Combe territory.

The second half was a disrupted affair with a 20 minute stoppage for the Simmonds' neck injury. But before then Combe had sailed clear with a 10 minute hat trick for Hamilton. The first came when the Combe front eight won a scrum against the head out on the left and presented Hamilton with a 2 on 1 opportunity which he wasn't going to miss out on. 5 minutes later he got his second very wide out on the right and Harrison slotted the conversion with consummate ease. Another 5 minutes and an interception while Combe were pinned back in their own 22 gave Hamilton an 80 metre run in for his 3rd.

At 28-0 Combe had the bonus point but were not finished. Deschamps got his second when Chobham failed to effectively clear a high ball with the centre stooping to pick up the loose ball and run in the try. When the match re-started after the injury it was understandable that any intensity had been sucked from the game. However Combe rounded off their victory in style. After replacement Young had made serious inroads into Chobham territory, the pack took over, recycling ball for O'Sullivan to plunge over for Combe's 6th and final try. Harrison kicked his 5th conversion of the game.

A confidence boosting result for Westcombe Park with the clean sheet being especially pleasing. Back to Goddington Dene next Saturday when the visitors are Hove RFC.
